Shiptheory offers the option to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for your account. With this enabled, each time you log into Shiptheory as normal with your email and password, you will then be prompted to enter an additional authentication code.
When enabling 2FA on your account, you can select how you would like to generate or receive this second code - either by email to your Shiptheory account email address, or via a TOTP (time-based one-time) app on your smartphone such as Google Authenticator or Authy.
How to enable two-factor authentication
Log into your Shiptheory account and, from the main menu select Advanced > Change Password. Enter a new or your current password into the fields and under Enable Two-Factor Authentication, select the method you would like to use.
Follow the instructions that appear below to obtain the verification code needed to complete setup and then click Save.
If email-based two-factor authentication has been enabled, once you've logged into Shiptheory with your email and password, an email will be sent to your account email address containing a 6-digit code that will need to be entered to complete sign-in.
You will have 10 minutes from the email being sent to enter the code into Shiptheory before it will expire. After this time you will need to start the log-in process again.
Your email should arrive within a few moments but please allow a few minutes for delivery. It's always worth checking your Junk folder in case your email client has filed the email there.
If you have selected to use an Authenticator App such as Google Authenticator, Authy or others, you will need to open your app to obtain the 6-digit code to use once you have logged into Shiptheory with your email and password as normal. These codes are re-generated every 30 seconds by your app and verified by Shiptheory once entered.
Please refer to your app's documentation for any specific instructions.
