You will see an option for your shipments' TIN type within your FedEx integration settings. These indicate how the recipient locale handles the tax numbers you supply (IOSS, EORI, etc.).
You have the option to differentiate TIN Type for shipments in and out of the EU and UK, and internationally.
If you are not sure which TIN type to select, please speak to your FedEx account manager. However, FedEx has provided us with the following guidance on which TIN Type to select:
Business National – Used in US and other countries to indicate the Tax number is a business Tax number at Country (National) level, as opposed for example an EU wide tax number such as an IOSS number.
Business State – Used in US and other countries to indicate the Tax Number is a business Tax number issued at local or State level for the collection of local or state taxes, as opposed to a National Tax number.
Business Union – Used in the EU and similar multi-country Trade zones to identify a Tax number which is recognised within that group of countries. E.g. An IOSS number is recognised within the nation states of the EU, thus the IOSS number is a “Business Union” tin type.
Personal State – Used mainly in US, or similar countries, where local or State taxes apply to an individual. Identifies the TIN as a local or State tax number and not a national number.
Personal Union – Used mainly in US, or similar countries, where separate national and local taxes can be applied to individuals. Identifies the TIN as a National tax number.
